Ravana Cut His Heads

King Ravana took to the suggestion and started severe prayers to Lord Shiva. Ravana started cutting his ow head one by one as he had 10 heads. When he was about to cut his 10th and last head, pleased with his worship Lord Shiva appeared in front of him and granted a boon. Ravana asked for 5 million years of life.

This is the final battle between Rama and Ravana. Rama has pursued Ravana in his chariot and fires golden arrows, which turn into serpents as they reach Ravana. The arrows cut off Ravana's many heads but they immediately grew back again. This goes on for days and nights, and Ravana shoots hundreds of arrows as the two fight to the death.

Matali, Rama's charioteer watches the struggle and suggests that "To kill Ravana you must use the dreaded arrow of Brahma, given to you by Agastya, which never misses its target". So Rama shot the divine arrow, which had the power of the gods in it, which pierced Ravana in the heart and killed him.

This is a detail from an illustration of the battle scene from the Yuddha Kanda (final book of the Ramayana) from a manuscript produced in Udaipur, India in 1652.

Ravana, one of the Indian mythologies’ most fascinating beings, has always been a subject of mystery and debate. A raakshasa by birth and a genius by will, Ravana at the helm of his powers was a ruler of the three worlds and could control the sun rise and the sunset. What’s also widely known is that he was a devout follower of Lord Shiva. But to your surprise, he wasn’t always a devotee of the destroyer. Matter of fact, he challenged Lord Shiva and wanted to defeat him. And then, this happened.
