To better understand hospitality, look no further than the word itself. The term "hospitality" comes from the Latin word "hospes," which means "host." This is the basis on which the term is founded. Hospitality is essentially the relationship between a host and a guest. While this can occur in a variety of scenarios, it's often used by businesses to provide customers and clients with better services. Dictionary.com defines the term "hospitality" as being the "reception and treatment of guests or strangers." From a business's perspective, a business is viewed as the host, whereas its customers or clients are the guests. Hospitality involves treating and caring for customers and clients so that they'll continue using the business's services. If a business fails to treat its customers or clients with respect, it may struggle to generate sales. While all businesses can benefit from hospitality, it's particularly import...

Schedule Your Self-Care

Image
"Self-care is a multiplier of time," explains Heather Peterson, corepower yoga's chief yoga officer. "When you take time, whether it's five minutes for a short meditation, 10 minutes to food prep for the next couple days, or a full hour of yoga, you build energy and focus." And guess what happens with all that energy and focus? It gets channeled into all the other stuff keeping you busy. Not only that, buttalking little chunks of your time every now and then can build up to huge results. "Small amounts of effort over a lifetime really do make radical changes," says Peterson. Even if you're already convinced you need to make time for yourself to finally use those relaxing beauty products, sit down for meditation, or take a second to journal, it can still be tough to actually get it done. Here, read how seven über-successful people do it. Set the tone. Sometimes, making time for self-care is as simple as taking a small action to delineate between ...

The world-famous shrine in Kerala's Sabarimala is dedicated to the worship of Lord Ayyappa, who is also known as Manikandan/Manikanthan. The pilgrimage season has begun, and one will find thousands of devotees thronging the region to pay obeisance to the young boy, who chose to reside at the Sabarimala.  The Devas had combined their powers to create Durga, who in turn killed Mahishasura for creating havoc. And to avenge the death of Mahishasura, Mahishi, his sister created ruckus in the universe. Once, while performing a penance, she pleased Brahma and was blessed with a boon which stated that only a child born to Shiva and Vishnu could kill her. Thus, Mahishi misused the blessing as she knew she had become invincible. But little did she know that the gods would outsmart her. Vishnu transformed into his Mohini avatar and united with Shiva to produce a child. And this child came to be known as HariHara Putra. Therefore, the main purpose of Ayyappa's birth was to eliminate Mah...

Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar of God Vishnu is worshiped as a supreme God in Hinduism. Born in northern India (around 3,228 BCE), Lord Krishna’s life marks the passing of the Dvapara age and beginning of the Kal yuga (which is also considered as the current age). References to Lord Krishna can be found in several Hindu mythological books, especially in the epic Hindu book, the Mahabharata. Lord Krishna is also described as an important figure in the Bhagavata Purana. This is another Hindu epic book that dates to the 10th century B.C. In the text, Lord Krishna is described as the charioteer for the warrior Arjuna who had guided him morally and gave military counsel to the leader. The figure of Lord Krishna is depicted as having blue or blue-black skin. He holds a flute (bansuri) and sometimes accompanied by a cow or cowherd. Krishna is also known by many other names, such as Govinda, Madhusudhana, Vasudeva and Mukunda. In the books, he is also depicted as a child who performs pl...

Stories Related to Guruvayur

Sankaracharya's Forced Halt Once, Sankaracarya was travelling to Shringeri. While passing through Guruvayur, he smiled at the elaborate procession and tried to pass the temple without making obeisance to the Lord. His movement interrupted the procession at the northwest corner. Soon, he He fell unconscious in front of the elephant procession. When he recovered, he saw the Lord in his majesty. Realizing the cause of his fall, Sankaracharya prostrated before the Lord and tried to win the His favor by chanting eight slokas in praise of Govinda, known as Govinda Ashtakam. Manjulalthara Manjula was a virtuous and devout girl belonging to the Variyar caste. Every night, she used to bring garlands for the Lord. One day she was late and the temple was closed. She could only reach the banyan tree from where the elephant race starts during Utsavam or festival. She felt very guilty about it. Poonthanam, a devotee of the Lord who was on his way back from the temple, saw her crying under the ...

The members of Pandya dynasty ousted by Thirumala Naicker the ruler of the erstwhile Pandya Empire spanning Madurai, Thirunelveli and Ramanathapuram lived in places like Valliyur, Tenkasi, Shengottah, Achankovil and Sivagiri. They had also established their supremacy in parts of Travancore, and some of them belonging to Chempazhanattu Kovil in Sivagiri were given the right to rule the country of Pandalam by the King of Travancore, some eight hundred years ago. King Rajashekara, the foster-father of Lord Ayyappa belonged to this dynasty. A just and precocious sovereign King Rajashekara was held by his subjects in high esteem. Under him, the region was witnessing a golden age. But the king had one sorrow – he was childless and thus had no heir to inherit his throne. Both the hapless king and his queen prayed ceaselessly to Lord Shiva for a child. Around the same time, a demon by the name of Mahishasura undertook severe penance (tapas) and consequently Lord Brahma was forced to gran...

Janmashtami, also known as Krishna Janmashtami   or Gokulashtami, is a major Hindu festival in India and celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, who happened to be the eighth incarnation or avatar of Lord Vishnu, the supreme God of the Hindus. The eighth day of the Bhadrapada month or Ashtami as per Hindu lunar calendar marks Janmashtami. It is believed that Krishna was born in a dungeon of Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, on this day at the clock struck midnight. Krishna is the god of love, tenderness and compassion. Hindu mythology portrays him as a prankster, a gentle lover, a universal supreme being and child-like God. The narrative and stories of  Lord Krishn ’s life are referred to as Krishna Leela. According to the tale, Krishna was born in the Yadava clan of Mathura to Queen Devaki and her husband, King Vasudeva.   With much of the professional world shifting to remote work   and widespread acceptance of the concept among previously skeptical corporate management, the traditional idea of work-life balance is being pushed in new directions, including a concept of remote work-life-tourism never before imagined. Drew Sing, a fully remote growth product manager at a technology start-up, has been living and working from Lisbon, Portugal, since the beginning of March, after a few months in London. He had planned to fly back to the U.S. in May, and had even booked three flights back, each with a 24-cancellation policy, but when he looked at the Covid-19 trends in the U.S. versus Europe, “each day I spent here I said, ‘I think I will stay.’ I think this is a safe place to stay during these unprecedented times.’” Sing is not new to the digital nomad lifestyle. He left the Bay Area in 2018  to live a remote life, and bought a home outside Seattle — which he rents out, but where he main...

How I Make Friends While Solo Traveling

Image
You find a friend who is willing to travel with you, go back and forth for weeks about destinations and schedules, finally agree on the where, when, and what of your trip, get super hyped and begin making preparations, and suddenly your friend's brother is getting married that week or they read a news story about how your destination isn't safe.  You try to argue your case, accommodate more scheduling issues, but the trip never happens. I went through that same general scenario several times before I gave up on traveling with friends and decided to  take the plunge into solo travel . I had places to go and people to meet, and I didn't have time anymore to wait on someone to come with me. Don't get me wrong, I love a girl's trip as much as the next 20-something female. But 99% of my travels these days are done solo. There are enough benefits to travelling alone  to write an entire article in itself! , and allows for freedom to do whatever I want, whene...
